Hey, does anyone know anything about the scubapro equater? I am a PADI OW and AOW diver and I am planning on getting Rescue this summer. Unfortunately I don't know too much about equipment. Any suggestions of other BCs? I haven't really used any back inflations (just 1 dive), but I am open to any suggestions. (would like it to be packable, mostly traveling with it) I would like to stick with scubapro/cressi/oceanic because that is essentially what my lds carries.

Not on their website at all. Definately doesn't mean it doesn't exist. The diving industry in general seems to be both colour blind and I.T. challanged so that's not surprising.

Hmm... I would guess that you are correct, I have looked for it on the internet and my lds just got it in. It is in the Scubapro 2004 catalogue. It seems to me that it is the same as the knighthawk except lighter and more compact.
I might as well say it before someone else does. If it is at all practical and possible in your area I would recommend you try and at least get into the pool and try out a Jacket, Back inflate, and Backplate/Wing system for comparison.
Also read a few of the threads on here on the topic. Many of them have turned into heated debates as people get very passionate about it.
Personally I own both a Jacket style BC so I can relate to a lot of open water divers wearing rental gear in a training situation (which is almost always a jacket style BC with a weight belt), and a bp/wing system.
On a personal basis I prefer a bp/wing for several reasons that are well covered on here. To each their own.
My opinion on supporting the local dive shop though? If they don't sell the equipment you prefer for whatever reason that is no reason to shortchange yourself and buy there anyways. Buy what you feel good about, not what is available easily or what is going to relieve you of the guilt that a lot of LDS's like to aim at their customers.
Read. Take every opinion with a grain of salt, become knowledgeable about both the equipment and the culture surrounding it, whether it is going to grow with you, and if at all possible try the stuff.
A BC is a big purchase for most people. Buy once...Buy right...

It's a travel BC that is supposedly compact and lightweight. However it does not have integrated weights. Have only seen it on pictures sofar and I don't know if they're already shipping. ScubaRon
This is more of a question regarding a comparison btwn Scuba Pro and Sporasub BDCs Am looking into buying the Sporasub Compact Plus but have also looked at the very basic Scuba Pro BCD without an integrated weight belt. Anyone have any advice? The Sporasub is comfortable and has more options but I can't find any write up or consumer reports.
not that I need another rec bc, but it was new, it was there, so I looked it over, looks like an entry level or travel oriented back inflate. There's some pockets built in where you'd expect integrated weights and the backpad is the less expensive thermo formed type. It looks easy to use and comfortable to wear, and I'd bet it packs nice and compact. For the casual or dive holiday traveling diver, It looks to be a good choice.
