After reading the thread at Wetpixel Forums, I decided to give this a try for my setup.

I have a good friend that is an absolute guru with his lathe, so I asked for his help and this morning I was fortunate enough to watch him work his magic.

First step was to measure everything to within 1:1000 of an inch.

After that, the cutting began. Being aluminum, the rings are easily modified.

Using the milling machine, we were able to make sure the surface that would be in contact with the housing would be absolutely flat and perfect.

The results are perfect!

Next, using a digital caliber, we measured the distance between the screw holes located on the housing.

Using the measurements, we were able to use a marking paint (the purple stuff) and mark exactly where we needed to drill the screw holes on the ring.

After marking the screw locations, we used the precision of the mill to drill the holes.

After that, a simple alcohol rub removed the marking paint, and walah!
