Digital Rebel - Which housing?!?

Hi

I am planning to buy a canon digital rebel, my first digital slr camera, and was wondering what housing is best for it. I had a look on digideep.com where they have listed over 10 different manufacturers. As it is my first housed camera I am getting an overload of information. I'm on a budget but also don't want to underspend on a housing.

I hope someone can give me some good advice :06:

I would go Ike lite... Althought I bought a Sea & Sea for my 10 D

Have you considered the Nikon D70? Its been getting great reviews & has more features. Several housings available.

Really depends on your budget! Ike would likely be the cheapest option and their housing is now offering true TTL compatibility with Ike strobes!

Thanks jcclink, what's so much better about the nikon d 70? I compared prices between the nikon d 70 and the digital rebel and noticed they are about the same.

About the housing, I have been told to not buy the ikelite because of the plastic housing and the big volume and not to buy the sea & sea again because of the plastic housing and the slippery controls inside the housing? Has anyone have experience with sealux housings?

Check reviews & user comments for the Rebel & D70. I think you'll find more features & capability on the 70. Most believe the kit lens for the D70 is better glass.
Housings - checkout Nexus & Subal (not sure what your budget is) Like you say - Ikilite & S&S are pretty large compared to the size of the camera. Subal especially is very compact.
I will be buying a DSLR in the next few months. Friends have Rebel & D70. After talking to them, looking at both cameras & reviews, I'm going with the D70. If I eventually get a housing it will be a compact one. I'm sure new models will also be released during the next year.

I Picked Up The Canon Digital Rebel Six Months Ago.incredible Camera.to The Best Of My Knowledge The Only Available Housings Are The Ikelite And The Aquatica 300.i Bought The Aquatica.you Really Do Not Want To Put The Rebel In The Ikelite Housing Regardless Of What The Company States.underwater Phototec Could Assist In This Also.good Luck

i have the digital rebel but for underwater pics i use the A75 . The pics to me are great and it is compact enough for diving . I see on other messages on this forum guys like the new A95 as well.....too late for me . My only advice is basically if you are going to be able to go professional then spend more on the casing for the rebel and good luck . Otherwise keep the rebel for the land and take a more compact underwater . It will also give you less tears when it floods.......

Lots like the D70, but I don't think it's a clear cut winner. Those in the know comment that the Rebel's CMOS sensor is superior to the nikon's. True? Dunno, but Nikon vs. Canon debates are worse than DIR debates.....

Rebel - Lower ISO - 100 versus 200 on the D70. Higher ISO = more noise
D70 - 9 shot buffer, but stil have to wait for strobe recycle times.
D70 has two jog dials, Rebel one. PErhaps easier to manipulate UW but requres another mechanical opening in the housing...... One jog dial isn't a big deal.

As a beginning user I'd say it's 6 of one half dozen of another.

Housings, several available
Ike - $1200
Aquatica - $1500
Sea & Sea - $1900
Subal (i think ) - lots.
Nexus? not sure
Add ports for lenses
Add arms for strobes
Add strobes...

All the housings will work well, although I saw a friend's D70 in a Ike housing - HUUUGE
I have the rebel in the Aquatica, nice and compact
