    shore diving...tanks

We're headed out for our 2nd trip to Grand Cayman although it has been about 8 years! We'll be at Morritts Tortuga and Reef Resort.

We did shore diving last time and are planning on doing mostly shore diving again (staying 3 wks...). Last time we got our tanks from Tortuga Divers...but it concerns me a tiny bit that they no longer have on their website the cost of a tank, nor does Ocean Frontiers...so, where do you all rent your tanks? And how much have they been charging??

(And yes...I've emailed Red Sail/Tortuga Divers and Ocean Frontiers. But figured you all would answer more quickly!! )

    THANKS!!

The only places I know for sure you can currently rent tanks to take offsite are Divers Supply in the West Shore Centre (CI$6), Sundivers at the Cracked Conch (CI$8) & the Lobster Pot Dive Centre on N. Church St. (CI$?). Given the distance between these & Morrits, your best bet would be to arrange something with Tortuga or OF.

Tortuga (now Red Sail) stopped renting tanks a few years ago. I've heard that OF still does. The number of East End shore diving opportunities that don't involve trespassing have diminished greatly in the last 8 years.

    Have a great time!

I can confirm that Tortuga eliminated shore tank rentals about 6 years ago. I have heard varying things about getting tanks at OF.

Which sites are you referring to? I cannot think of any East End shore diving opportunities that have diminished in the last 8 years.

Really? Besides Queen's monument, which ones are left where you're not trespassing? The open land with the easy walk down for Babylon now has houses on it for one.

From the end of the no-dive zone in Old Man Bay, these spots are accessible from shore - Julies, Babylon, Northern Lights, Conolly's Cove, Little Bluff Wall, 2 spots just before Barefoot Beach, Anchor Point at Barefoot Beach, 1 site just after Barefoot Beach, cleared lot by Iggy Pop's house & then all the sites along the dire road from the proposed Laughing Waters up to Spotter Bay incl. Valley of the Dolls, Black Rock, Omega, Photographic, Spotter Bay Wall (Turtle Pass), etc. etc.

So at least 15 spots from Old Man Bay to NE Point.

So these are spots that you CAN still access? Tell me more...where would do you park and anything else you can think of!
