My wife and I ( :07: ) are avid Scuba Divers, and will be visiting Cayman Brac (staying at Divi Tiara), in early December.

Originally, we were planning on going to Grand Cayman (Morritts), but the hurricane put a stop to that. So, Cayman Brac, here we come.

We have already booked our meal and dive packages with Divi Tiara, and are now looking for some additional recommendations/information to "fill-in" the gaps.

1. Recommended shore diving?

2. We are looking to tour the island for a few afternoons, and could not find a rental agency on-line. Where can we rent a car (which we will also use for shore diving)?

3. Are there any other topside activities that we can do (touring, caving, etc.)?

4. Any other ideas/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

You will enjoy the Brac, but if you think it will be like GC, think again. It is the way GC was over twenty years ago. A quiet island, there is no traffic. The car rental place can be found behind and across the road from the Divi, they also have a couple of scooters to rent too. There was another car rental called the 4D, but it wasn't there last time. Also there is a car rental at the airport.
Shore diving is best found on the north side of the island and you will be on the south side, so it's a couple miles from where you are at. Good shore dives are "Buccaneer" where the old hotel used to be, "radar" reef found by an old cable in the water, and a number of actual dive sites that can be dove from the shore. Some have dove on the "Russian" wreck but it is a bit of a swim.
To do topside, is seek out several caves like "Rebeccas", the "Bat" cave and a couple of others. The bluff which is the highest part of the island is attainable and is an awesome view, there are walking-hiking trails that are new in the bluff area. There is a museum near town (the word 'town' is used loosely). There is a beach on the north east shore to visit, then there is the public beach which is the nicest beach on the Brac, you'll be the only ones on the beach - nobody goes there. And, our fav thing to do is watch the sun :dazzler1: set each night as it goes down over Little Cayman. Take the road behind the Divi west till it ends and take your fav drink along.
There used to be a small park on the north west side that had cages holding some big iquanas but last time we ere there, there were none but we did however almost hit one with our scooter.
Say hi to Max and Liz, we been going to the Brac since 1988, but don't go every year. The best diving is at LC so take every opportunity. Some great Brac dive sites are: 'Son of Rock Monster' ,'School bus wall"(flying gunards), Plymouth Rock, East Chute, Tarpon wall, Strawberry wall, some excellent diving at these sites.
All the best,
Caymaniac

Here is a Link to a Brac shore diving information page.

We rented a car from B & S motor ventures They also gave us a map to shore diving/snorkeling sites on the island. Very helpful people, they even opened on a Sunday to bring us the car.

You can probably see most of the whole island in an afternoon, unless you take the time to carefully and fully explore some of the caves. A drive up to the top of the brac is worth the effort.

Thank you for all of your ideas.
Any additional thoughts are appreciated.
We can't wait for our "relaxing" vacation at the Brac.

We stayed at the Divi on Bonaire a year or so ago. The food and the service were great. So now we are booked at the Divi on CB in December. Thanks for this thread, it was just what I needed! Can't wait......

we spent 5 days at the Divi and Max and Liz run a great place and the slide show Max does is fun and the car people brought the jeep to the resort so it is easy, take the bikes and pedal west and catch the sun set over little cayman, but i think our most favorite activity after the morning dives was the lounge chair on the beach move just a very relaxing spot, but do rent a jeep and drive the island takes all afternnon if you go slow
