How is the vis during the winter months of Jan, Feb or Mar. Are there the normal winter storms from the Pacific that come to the this arae ? We are looking at going to the northern region. Anything will help us make a choice, CR or caribbean islands.

The diving in Costa Rica is very different from the Caribbean. The visibility will never compare, the best we have seen is about 50', normal is 30'. On the other hand there is always a lot to see, and as a friend said to me once, underwater if you are not close you really don't see it anyway. Our best dive ever was in Costa Rica. On the boat out to the dive site there were dolfins riding the bow wave, devil rays just below the surface swimming around, a humpback whale surfaced right in front of the boat and we listened to them talking the entire dive, when we got into the water there was more life of every description than we have ever seen and on our safety stop we were in a huge school of barracuda and had a fly by of three 12' mantas. This was an unusual dive, but there are almost always sharks, lots of eagle and southern stingrays, big morays and tons of fish. If you are interested we are trying to start a new business taking people on tours of Costa Rica and I am sure you would be happy there.

The winter months are usually pretty good for Costa Rica standards, plus this time of the year also brings us whales an dwhale sharks and jumping devil rays :)
Just remember we do not have coral reefs but a great abundance in marine life
