Paula- Thanks for your list of links. Could you make any recommendations regarding the best areas to dive for kelp forests? As a kelp forest ecologist, I'm giving thought to coming to Chile to dive and take some video for comparison with our own kelp forests.

Thanks and Best Fishes,

Dr. Bill

To be honest, i'm not a specialist in kelp, but i had dive some beautiful forest in "Zapallar", "Papudo" an "Quintay". with trunks of 1 meter tall. All of this places are no more than 200 km from "Santiago". If you ask me for a recomendation i recomend you to call or write an e-mail to a Dive Center like Aquatica and ask for a excursion. Some of they are Underwater Naturalist Specialist.

Sorry

Paula,

No, no he ido.
(y a precios convenientes)

Saludos!!!

You definitely want to look up Puerto Madryn just south of Buenos Aires.
They have decent cavern diving but are most popular for their sea lions and Orcas.
If you're a dry suit diver you might even want to look into the lakes a little bit farther south, close to the Chilean border. They have crystal clear water and never freeze over due to suspected underground volcanic activity. A good lake to look into is the lake Nahuel Huapi which is conveniently located right by the well known ski resort Bariloche.
