Croatia in September... Tips and advise?

    Hi all,

we're planning a one week trip to Croatia in September and we could use some advise.
There are a ton of dive operators and we just don't know how to weed through them.

We're now looking into Kvaren (Krk) and Split, don't ask me how we decided that we want to stay in one of those regions, they just appealed to us when flipping through a brochure. Which one is the best? What are the main differences between the two?

Our dives: we're looking forward to sampling most of the things the Adriatic sea has to offer. I can't say we prefer fish over wrecks or something, for the simple reason we've never done any wreck diving.
For a dive operator, we would like something smallish. No cattle-boat operation please, we like the personal touch.

Any tips on hotels would be more than welcome. We prefer something small, with a lot of charm and if possible some history to the place. Also here, the personal touch does wonders.

Whatever you do, post results here. I was looking to going to Dubrovnik last year and wanted to dive the dalmation coast. Trip didn't happen due to other reasons, but its still in my top 5 places to check out in the future.

I will certainly post a trip report.
But I'm still hoping somebody can give me some advise before I'm leaving

Now when you put it like this, I'll share my experience with you

I've been on Rab last year with kron-diving.com. I love walls and schools of fish, tunnels, canyons. They have plenty of places to go, and you can have nice dives on 20m and on 30/40m.

And in Pula the year before: Diving Center Puntizela
Here they do have walls and shallower dives like on Rab. You can also do a number of wrecks. When the number of dives in your profile is correct, you may want to think twice before focussing on the wrecks. They are typically below 30m, visibility can be 2m only, there can be currents, apart from the dangers that wrecks can pose. Some more experience could increase your safety.

This year I'll go to Krk, but I haven't been to Split. It just goes to show that I love the diving there.

For accomodation, write emails to the basis, I haven't seen any yet who wouldn't gladly assist helping you with it!

    Have fun!

    Hi Adaveke,
    I'm from Croatia.
I purpose you to contact ADC forum(Adriatic diving center), there you can get all information you need.
Make attention that there are lot's of DC during season but during winter there are just few open centers.DC Kostrena (near Rijeka,Kvarner)is open all year.If you dive on the south of croatian coast you will find warmer sea and different sea life than if you dive in north part of croatian coast.Anyway Adriatic sea is beautiful and I'm sure that you will enjoy.Main diving season is from may to october .

I wish you a nice holiday in my homeland and safe diving

Split is a "big" city so you'll have a lot of options. Sea temperatures in that part of year will be from 25C on surface to around 18C on 30m. Dives will be around 30-40m deep with nice walls and some wrecks (not much big fish)... Visibility should be around 15-25m...

Krk is on the northern side so you should expect little less visibility (5-15m) but with many nice sites... I usually dive from Silo (DC Neptun) since they are close and have a nice wreck 5min from the center (wreck Peltastis, search on youtube)...

Centers in the north tend to be a little bit more professional but YMMV...
