Poseidon compressor

does any one have anyh info on poseidon compressors. A local fire house has a used posieden compressor for sale. It would be about $3,500 for the compressor and cascade bottles. I am trying to find how many hours it has on it, they say it was just serviced 6 months ago. The gents at poseidon think the smallest unit they have for fire houses is a 6.5 cfm 3 stage unit. Any thoughts

I dont know the Poseidon units, but I would hazard a guess its generic OEM block?? Maybe even a Coltri??

I think its also important to find date of manufacture if possible, so you dont end up with an obsolete unit in 2 years time.

I would check with a similar unit to get a comparison price, you dont mention how many cascade cylinders are involved, but it certainly sounds reasonable as a package, considering its just recently serviced.

Years ago, Poseidon, formerly an independent company, was bought by Bauer. The blocks and some other parts are similar, maybe identical to Bauer.

Oh Okay, I wasnt aware of that, but I was pretty sure Poseidon could not be making compressor blocks in any kind of viable quantities.

Coltri is famous for making compressors for a few differant customers under their own names, but I have never heard of Bauer doing this. Usually they are fiercerly protective of their own name, which may explain why you dont see too many Poseidon compressors around - Bauer just bought them up and stopped making them (under the Poseidon name anyway.)

went to see the unit today. It is a Poseidon PU-135, which looks to be very similar to their PU-150. Unit is a 3 stage rated to 4800psi with 195 hours total. Unit was serviced every year and air was tested every 4 months. Also include are 4 5000 psi cascade bottles.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a good deal. The cascade cylinders are 2-3 hundred each, will need to check hydro date and inspection on them.
The unit is a mid level size, will need to be tested for air compliance, but with normal service should last for many years. (A new P-100 is 3700.00) The P-100 is smaller than the one you are looking at.

BTW, the connection between Posiedon and Bauer has been suspect for a long time. Then recently it was made official....Bauer aquired Posiedon Austria. The guys in the U.S. are the North American distributor.

Coltri manufactures in Italy. They do sell thier blocks to independant packagers and they also private label for some companies....more commonly Max-Air, Nuvair, Nautica, and others.

Poseidon was always a division of Bauer, created in the 1970's to sell into the Eastern European countries and kept as an independent brand. In the late 1990's it was rolled into the Bauer Group, but still considered a separate product, slightly different from the standard Bauer blocks, even though they share some common parts.
The manufacturing plant is in Austria, and a few years back they used to have a US office up in Vermont (?). If you contact Bob Mekus at Bauer Miami (954) 746-2504, he can give the contact information, but that office may be closed at this time.
Be careful if you are considering buying the unit; parts are not easy to come across. If you cannot cross-reference it with a Bauer #, they are togh to get.
