New user here and if this breaks some kind of rule, please feel free to move this thread or delete it. My father and I recently purchased some property that the seller left a recently rebuilt (30 hours after rebuild) air compressor on. The seller gave us the manual and parts list for it, but we really don't know of a use for it. We have been told it could be used for filling SCUBA tanks or paintball tanks, but neither of us have any idea about it. The manual says it is a type 30 model 223. I have some pictures here: https://da188bc0d2635d4960cecc0613af66ce3e4d1181.googledrive.com/host/0B3H65Fh8S0mIcE1xRk5vendjOVU/ of the air compressor.

If we sell it, what would be a reasonable price?

Also were we told correctly that it could be used for SCUBA/Paint Ball?

Thanks in advance for any help.

You have a really nice shop air compressor. That Ingersoll Rand type 30 (I have one) is a great air compressor for running shop tools and it's big enough to run a small mechanic's shop. Sadly, they are a dime a dozen, and retail on a new one with tank is $1500. I'd ask $500-$750 for it and see where it goes. I have successfully rebuilt these, but for the money, it's cheaper to replace it.

No, it will not fill a scuba cylinder or paint ball gun.

Thanks Wookie. I have been searching the net for 3 days trying to find more information about this thing. I have found many posts relating the 223X5 to Scuba and paintball equipment because of the 3 stage 3,000 psi output on some of the type 30 models. I am going to call Ingersoll tomorrow morning and see if they can help me put some more pieces to this puzzle together.

Just out of curiosity how could this be used for a small shop? A large tank to store the compressed air and a manifold to distribute the air?

I've heard of t30's that get 500 psi, and found a catalog with 1000 psi models, but IR is very specific that these aren't breathing air compressors. Does this not come with an air receiver? The motor and pump are usually mounted on an 80 gallon tank.

Plus, with a three phase motor, you severely limit your customer base since most households don't have three phase available to them.

And now I feel stupid. It is indeed a HP machine, 2,000 PSI. Still not big enough for filling paintball or scuba cylinders, but far bigger than a shop compressor. Oddly, Wolf's Marine Supply, who is active on this board, has one for sale on Ebay. That'll learn me to research on my iPad instead of a computer.

I just got off the phone with Rand and it is indeed a 3 stage 3,000 psi 5.0 cfm bare compressor. Their records indicate it was just rebuilt by the local service here in Norcross, GA. The person I spoke with said that with the right equipment it could be used for filling cylinders for scuba/paint ball but would require lots of parts that are not with this particular unit. Also since the newer cylinders are 4,500 psi these are popping up everywhere with local fire departments selling them to get a 4,500 psi compressor. Interesting find indeed and I thank Wookie and rcontrera for the help with this. I have put it up for sale on craigslist in Atlanta for $500 with the hopes that someone can use it.

You have a 223x5 model three stage double acting piston and its a better unit than you think.
3000psi of industrial air at 5 cfm delivery ts only drawback for scuba is its high displacement and hot interstage

But for industrial HP air this is king and your selling it way too cheap.

Here is a IR T30 223 albeit a 2006 model secondhand going for $4,250

You may be better off calling an industrial Air compressor shop or dealer they will give you more than $500
Your giving it away for nothing on craigslist. You should be looking for $1500 at least to the trade.
But not to the paintball and scuba market you need a specialist commercial compressor buyer.

Granted screw compressors ripped the heart out of the conventional recip industrial blocks
But that is a great compressor you have and frankly with all that stainless tubing and fitting
a quality re build. Just a pity to give it away.

If you want to use it for breathing air an oil change and around $1000 of filtration would work
but you still have only 5 cfm that at best outputs out at 3000 psi

Although more modern recips can produce 5 cfm with 4kw 5BHP of power
to 5000 psi there running at around 1500 RPM and above while the T30 rolls over at around half that speed.

Talk to the specialist industrial dealers

Or for $500 and you can lift it I will buy it and airfreight it to England!!!. Iain

Wow I don't know how I missed that website Iain. With all of the searches I did before posting here and elsewhere to have this pointed out. I will take that advice and find a specialist industrial air compressor shop. I am now very surprised this was given to us in the sale seeing as how valuable it could be. The previous owner must not have wanted to move it.
