Hi, I have recently purchased my first dive computer, a UWATEC Smart Z. I have been struggling to get my computer, using the SmartTrak software and an Irda to usb connector, to communicate with my Smart Z. I have found that I needed to disable my Mcafee software and have managed to download the 25 test dives (after numerous attempts, it seems to be very sensitive to the position of the senders/recievers). My problem now is I am unable to get the two to communicate and upload settings from SmartTrak to my dive computer. Do I have to be in a particular mode? I keep getting "not connected with UWATEC dive computer". Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Pete
until I decided to install Traveltrak on my phone - now I transfer the data in between dives, make all my notes and just synch my phone to the computer when I get home.
Really helps on multi-day liveaboards when I don't bring my laptop.
Thanks anyway. I have now found that placing the irda and computer within 1-2" and in a direct line it works. Switch on sounds for your irda and it gives you a good idea of the connection when you move the dive computer towards your computer. Mcafee on/off does not matter (I've tried it both ways with success). It's just a matter of the 2 devices being very close and in a direct line. Fiddly but true.
Cheers
Pete
I have yet to be able to get my Smart Z to sync with my PC. Only once have I been able able to get my IR dongle to be recognized by the PC and I have been unsuccessful in tring to replicate it. What I do is upload to my Treo and then transfer to my computer when I sync the phone. For some reason I can't edit most features on the phone without causing a fatal error but I can once it's on the PC. Buggy but it's working for my purposes.
PS I don't use Mcafee but rather Webroot.

Reason: addl. info
If you're using XP and McAfee anti-virus software - try this:
go into task manager (ctrl-alt-del), go to processes, disable or remove any executable that starts with "mca....." Mcafee would not allow me to connect and as soon as I disabled the correct .exe file - it worked great. I use VISTA now and have no problems connecting.
