    Jamie,

I'm finally back home. Connected the interface to my PC serial port 1, fumbled a bit with the Dive Manager, tested it, Win XP reported "pcif found in 0" and proceeded to transfer my log book (only two dives with the Mosquito, my other computer is an Aladin Air X). It worked like a charm on the first try. Thanks for everything and I hope the other package eventually arrives.

Please let me know if this message passes thrpugh all right, as you know my other emails have bounced off your server.

In any case, I will post tomorrow in the Dive Bulletin Board.

    Best regards,

    --Jorge.

I have seven more like this. Tried to send them to you from my Hotmail account but apparently they never arrived. I no longer have access to those as Hotmail automatically deletes them after a week. Not that it matters anymore, this seems to be a good communication method. There's your fax machine as well, if the need arises. ;-)

By the way, I tried to connect the interface to my laptop today via a Serial->USB converter without luck. The portable reports the port as COM6 but the DiveManager does not recognize it. It works perfectly on my desktop machine that has a _real_ serial port tho. No problem there. As I mentioned on my previous post, it went smoothly on the first try. Unfortunately serial ports seem to be going the way of the Dodo on newer machines.

In any case, I'm very pleased with the deal although I would like to skin the morons running our mail system.

    Best regards,

    --Jorge.

I can assure you that the interface will work with a serial to usb adapter if the adapter's software/drivers are properly installed and no configuration errors exist. I've had hundreds of people confirm this to be true. I would say to play around with it and don't rely on what com port the laptop tells you it is on. Sometimes you have to do a lot of trial/error, be a computer wiz, or have a friend that's a computer wiz to get everything to link up properly when you go through adapters. I have heard reports from a few users that not all serial to usb adapters work for whatever reason.

Erik Il Rosso, I haven't had time to check on the ship date but it probably hasn't had time to get there yet anyway now that I think of it. Keep me updated.

Jamie, thanks a lot for the comment on the USB link. I will play some more with the settings and I'm sure I'll manage the hook.

    Best regards,

    Suunto Mosquito PC Interface

    Hi,

Does anyone know where I can buy a cheap PC interface for my Suunto Mosquito? I don't want to spend £50 on a cable and connector which Suunto are selling them at. I know that some people make them themselves and am wondering if anyone actually makes them and sells them!!

Any info would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    V

    Hi Divin,

Have a look at this thread http://69.93.91.170/t43249.html for the details of a homemade solution offered by Athens Home Solutions. Jamiei is a member of the 'Board. You can PM him for more details.

    Cheers,

I am fairly new to diving. Only have 20 dives under my belt. I quite like the Mosquito although I don't think it is designed to be worn over the cuff of a dry suit. They do supply a wrist strap extension bit it is so flimsy it is useless. After nearly loosing the computer from my wrist on two occasions whilst diving, I now connect it to my console, which is perfect.
The functionality of the Mosquito is pretty much the same as the other Suunto computers and totally adequate for my needs just now. It is very easy to operate and the display is big enough to be easily read under water.

All in all I do like it and I wear it nearly all the time even when I'm not diving! The only downside is, as I have said, the flimsiness of the strap but if you are diving with a wet suit I am sure it would be fine.

    Hope this is of help!

    Happy Diving
