Which computer should start out with?

I am not sure if I should buy Sherwood Wisdom for appox. $500, Atmos I Console for appox. $275, or Oceanic Versa Pro for appox. $400. I am OW certified diver and will dive often. Should I go for cheap one to start out? What are your advices?

    Thanks!

i'm in the same hole as you are in. I'm looking for the best console computer for the lowest price possible, in the $300 range. I was looking at the Atmos 1 too.

i wouldnt make the mistake to buy something cheap in the beginning... you will only buy twice when doing so!
Get a decent compunter right away with nitrox capabilities and so on... a suunto vyper (or even a gekko if you can live without a possibilty to sync with your pc) will serve you well - now and in the future... of course, there are other great computers out there too...

    hope that helped a bit!

    Wrist or Console?

Many like the wrist mounted computer verses a console, plus that will cut your price a bit.

I don't have one but if I could afford it I'd go with a Suunto. I chose a Oceanic Veo 200 (Nitrox) from Leisurepro. (no flames please - yes it came with a warranty). Have been very, very pleased with it, does all I need it to do.

Of course talk to 10 different divers and we all may have a different opinion!

Take your time and really do some research before you buy.

I second the recommendation of the wrist mount over the console. Signifantly easier to access and read.

After looking at the Atmos 2 and Veo 200, I ended up with the Cressi-sub Archimedes. The display is nice and large and it has all the information that I need. The only downside that I've seen is that the computer software is more expensive than the Aeris and Oceanic computers.

Like other equipment, if you can, rent or borrow some computers to figure out which ones you like.

If you haven't seen it, Divernet has a large review of computers as well.

    My 2 cents

Wrist mounted - so you can still use a mechanical spg too in case your computer quits while you are 2000 miles from home on the dive boat, and easier to see.

Big digits - so you can see it

Nitrox capable - so you don't have to buy another computer next year

Uses common easy to buy batteries - so you can carry a spare set if you are 2000 miles from home and your computer runs out of power.

    Good luck...........
Don't worry - In order to be offended by you, I would have to respect your opinion.....

you all that serious about the wrist mounted computer?

i could buy an inexpensive gauge console and get a wrist monunted computer - but how would the computer know my maximum length allowed underwater since it's not connected to the air hose? (if this sounds dumb, obviously I'm a newbie)

Wow, never thought most of you divers would prefer the wrist. I thought compass, gauge, and computer all together as a console will be easier. But I understand the point, it will cut down the price - that's all?

    Thanks and keep going!

You aren't connected to your regulators, so it is easier to fool with, which you will, to set it up etc. Also, there is less of a chance of getting it banged up slinging around heavy gear etc.

You can always attach the wrist band to a d-ring if you don't wan't it on your wrist say..if you are digging around for something etc...
