How can I get rid of the watch strap attachment and replace it with bungee cord?

On my Vyper, after removing the wrist strap I was able to run 3/16" bungee between the boot and the vyper. It was a little difficult to get the bungee through the opening but the end result works great.

I slid 1" wide black elastic around each pin & sewed the elastic to itself (reinforced with a dab of superglue). Makes a nice, tight band. If you'd like a pic, let me know.

I did the same thing. Same exact elastic band material too. It works very nicely and doesn't roll donning or doffing. Just seems neater/cleaner than two bungies, but that's just me.
