I'm getting back into the sport of diving and I'm looking for equipment. This website should help. I'm in northern Ca and will be in some cold water and kelp. I was wondering about Dive computers. I have seen a local add for a Dacor Omni Pro. I'm going to look at it tomorrow. I believe it is from 1993. Is it too old for reliable service or getting it serviced? What year did Dacor merge with Mares? Can you get parts and rebuild the older Dacor equipment from before the merger? Is the new stuff really better then the older (1980's to early 90's) gear?
Thanks,
T

I wouldn't use a 12 year old dive computer. New ones are cheap enough.

Buy it if it is _really_ cheap. Suunto has a program where you can get up to $300 credit on a new computer buy trading in an old computer. if you can get it for lees then the credit and you like Suunto it would work.

That's really not much of a computer by todays standards. Air only - not much functionality, and if there is a problem... toss it...

I guess it depends on how much you have to put out to get it, but when you can get a brand new air computer in a console for about $220 with a full warranty - I would not invest a lot in something that is 12 years old.

Thanks, I've decided agianst the old Dacor. Yhe guy wanted $400 for a Dacor reg and octo and the Omni Pro. What new computer with air can you get for $220? (and where?) All my local shops start at about $449 and go up sharply. Most seem to be about $600.
Thanks,
Tom

You can get an air computer from Scubatoys.com for $164 :)

And, as Jonnythan mentioned, if you just want a wrist mount version it's even less $$$, but you'll need a SPG for your reg set one way or another. Just an individual preference on console mount vs. wrist mount on dive computers themselves. Some folks like console mount DC's best, some folks like wrist mount DC's best.

Or, you can even use retractor mount if you want . . .

And one of these is cheap investment against scratch protection, whichever mount you choose.

You can get that at one of my favorite sites... http://www.scubatoys.com :crafty:

Here's a link directly to the product: http://scubatoys.com/store/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=AerisAtmos1Console

I thought the Dacor Omni pro was Air-integrated, not "air-only". That's why I thought it would cost at least $400 + to get all the functionality. Can an Air-integrated computer give you more and safer bottem time then a non-integrated computer? My last diving experience was with a watch and a SPG and charts. I guess I could be very happy with a non-integrated computer. Is Nitrox the way go? I really need advice on controlling sea / motion sickness. That problem is the difference between total enjoyment of the sport and wanted to kill myself. I have had some trips that it didn't happen and others that were horrible. Does Subatoys have anything to fix that problem? I like the site (scubatoys.com). I'll shop there soon.
Thanks again,
Tom
