Hi, I'm from England and would like to hear from others in the UK. I live in Kent and have been diving for a year now. I used to dive 30 years ago (I'm 53 now) when all you had was mask, fins, a bottle thrown on your back and 60ft was a "Deep Dive", how things have changed.

All my diving has been around the English south coast so I'm hoping to save up enough money to dive the Red Sea next year, which will be a dream come true.

Colin,

It's great to see some divers from a time when modern diving was young! Let me be the first to welcome you and add that I really do envy you.

The more I read articles like those at ScubaHistory.com, which is dedicated to divers just like you, I can't help but dream of all those FRESH dive sites so virgin and untouched!

Did you happen to do any underwater photography that you saved from back then?

=-)

King Neptune,

I'm sorry I have no photos, all the memories are in my head. It was definitely a different way of diving back then. For instance, my ascent rate was rapid in comparison with what is practised today. Quite frankly I am surprised I wasn't bent like a banana after each dive. I am sure if I were to ascend now like I used to, my body would not be quite so tolerant.

Hey Colin, welcome to board! You'll love the "water" here, it's a source of endless fun, knowledge and general good times.

Hi Colin

Welcome to what I believe is the best forum for diving. I am also from England. I live in Surrey and began diving when I was 50 and am now 53. Most of my diving has been abroad in Kenya, India, Laccadives, Indonesia and Gibraltar.
After my first dive I was hooked and have become progressively more obsessed ever since.
