I am interested in putting together a dive trip to Cozumel. Here are the requirment I need to fulfill.

1. My non diving wife and our two year old will accompany me. I would like to dive mornings with the afternoon and evening for domestic relationship time.

2. My LDS does not do Cozumel trips, so I am looking for a dive shop on Island to hook up with.

3. My Idea of a sport dive is 100 feet max.

4. Should I stay mainside or on the Island for the family to enjoy the trip.

Thanks,

Stan

We loved our last diving trip in December to Cozumel - absolutley fabulous - the island was great, the diving was amazing - we are going back again in September. When we were there in December it was sting ray mating season, and we saw a ton of them, adults and some babies. But we saw so much more. We used Blue XT Sea (http://www.bluextseadiving.com/) and the crew was awesome. It was a small boat that carried only a six pack, but that was perfect. They picked us up from the hotel early in the morning, we usually had the option to dive more in the afternoon and did night dives (on one night dive the crew was so kind enough to drive us back to our hotel so we didn't have to use a cab - I should say usually they were able to pick us up from our hotel and take us back, but I can't remember why we couldn't do this on our night dive - I am thinking it was because we wanted to do one extra and we worked it out with them to do so....)

Christi is the owner and she is great. We can't wait to dive with them again. I am sure with her you will be able to get a couple of morning dives in with them and then spend the quality time with your family the remainder of the day.

Happy diving!

Just so you'll know, there's a whole Cozumel section here. It's under North America (because that's where Mexico is) then Mexico.

There are things to do in Cozumel besides dive. However, if your wife and kiddo don't love to spend long hours on the beach or at the pool it's possible they might enjoy Cancun or Playa del Carmen more. Even if they do, you'll need to select a hotel carefully, since beaches aren't always Cozumel's strong point. I can attest that the Presidente has quite a nice beach.

I've used Deep Blue http://www.deepbluecozumel.com/ and Dive Cozumel / Yellow Rose http://divecozumel.net/ and been quite happy with each, though they are significantly different from each other. I keep trying to arrange something with Christi at Blue XT Sea but keep experiencing dysschedulia. Next trip the plan is to do some dives with Dive Cozumel (48' boat with head and shower hose, very tech-y divers, do lots of deep diving) and some with Deep Blue (less expensive, 6-packs, more mixed groups).

Personally, I love Mexican towns the size of Cozumel, but some might find it limiting or boring. I'm very fortunate that my wife started diving with me 25 years ago and our son started diving shortly after he turned 10 so I never have to worry about anyone's not wanting to go on a dive trip!
