Getting to Cozumel from San Diego

I'm looking at a trip to Cozumel from San Diego in October and air flights look really horrid. Unless I'm missing something, the best I've found so far is either one stop from LAX (long drive or another flight to get there) or one stop via Houston with a long layover. Surely, it's got to be easier than this?

Does anyone know of better air connections? Thanks in appreciation.

Day of the week affects possibilities a lot, and actual dates would help give you a better answer.

It looks like 3 real airlines have iteneraries from SAN to CZM. Why not tell us what you have found so far. I do like longer connection times than the minimums the airlines suggest, to make sure I am not rushed, and that the bags have time to change too.

BTW, if you happen to chose to fly to Cancun, do not take the connection flight. From CUN, take the van to Playa del Carmen, then the ferry.
You can test the tanks you breathe or - dive on hope.
    Testing is safer...

Great news for vacation divers who cannot talk themselves into buying a personal CO tank tester!

Yeah it's just the air we breath - at depth!

    I know your pain...But+

There is a way to get there easy, only you are limited to Saturdays on your trip to Coz. Continental has a 6-7am flight out of SAN that changes planes in Houston, puts you in Coz by 3pm. Return flights are easy no matter what day you choose.
ON Sun to Fri your only options are the overnight at Houston or Dallas which both suck BTW. Or as suggested fly into Cancun and do the Bus/Ferry over from Playa. This wil add about 2+ hours to your trip each way, but is preferable in my mind to the overnight. Continental/American/and America West(sucks) offer flights most direct out of SAN. I've been doing these for the last 14 years so if you find anything better please post and let us know. Though I doubt very much there are any better options.

Have a great time and leave on Saturday

You've pretty much found what is available to CZM from California. You can however get direct flights to CUN, from LAX you should find them for well under $300. Try the charter flihgts, or even the regular airlines prices aren't bad to CUN. I went in June and did AA through DFW to CZM for $650pp (2) + overnight at the DFW Hyatt for $120. Next time I will take the direct flight to CUN and try the bus and ferry. I thnk you can easily do the bus and ferry in less time than the average layover. And for that kind of savings you can stay an extra day or two!

    Have fun.

I don't think it's an option. The last I heard, the skip flights between CUN and CZM were discontinued.

    Saturday option looks real good

Thanks for all the replies. Since we're flexible on dates, the Saturday option looks real good (nice call sddiver). We're going to try and plan around that.
