Will be traveling to Cozumel in August. Any suggestions for a good resort with a good, dependable dive team? Would appreciate any advice. New to this site and seems very interesting and informative.

My wife and I have used the Hotel Barracuda and Dive Paradise for several years and have always been very satisfied. The hotel is not a fancy resort, but is within a five minute walk to downtown. Dive Paradise shop is a block away and they pick you up at the hotel pier. We will be there 8/16 thru 8/26.

We have been staying at Hotel CZM for the last two time and will be there Aug 19-26.
It is a very good resort for the price. We dive with Blue XT because of their excellant service.

I've been going to Cozumel for a long time. I have stayed at 5 different hotels and used at least 8 different dive ops over a 14 year span. It is difficult to advise you without knowing your dive experience and exactly what you mean by resort. I would be happy to offer my opinion FWIW.

welcome to the board......if you could be more specific on what you are looking for in a resort/hotel and dive op.....you will get more opinions than you will need.

There are around 100 dive ops on the island that offer various options....for hotel/resorts you can get a $35.00 per night room or a high end room at the new Palace and plenty of options in between....

My 13 year old daughter got her junior certification here in New England last summer. We have been doing a lot of shore diving. This will be the first time that she will dive in the wonderful, clear water off of Cozumel. She has snorkeled in the keys. My husband and I have been diving for some time. I was looking for a place that might take a little more time because of my daughter. It might take a little time for her to get used to it. We would like a comfortable room and decent food. Thank you all for your advice.

Hotel Cozumel....is a middle of the road resort....it has a large pool with some organinzed activites water volleyball etc....the food is ok....but the food in town is always better and this hotel is close enough to walk to town or it is a 3.00US taxi ride...the onsite dive op it Dive Paradise never have used them....but if you make your feelings known to them I am sure they will accomodate you....or maybe even hire a personal DM to be on the boat with you and your daughter unitl she feels comfortable...I am sure you will get more opinions about different places....

Here are a few links that may help you

Here is a link to a company that has pretty good packages....

also if you have Air Charters in you area you might also check with them..

I am sure where ever you stay and dive with your daughter will have fun..

I agree that Hotel Cozumel may be the hotel for you, traveling as a family. It's a very nice property, beautuful large pool, good food from what I've been told, usually have good prices and specials with FunJet & it's close to town. I belive they have both all-inclusive and non-AI packages, don't quote me on that.

I really think that most dive ops will accomadate any requests you have, they are very good about that. Most dive ops try to put folks with similar experience on the same boat if at all possible and will address and concerns or requests you have.

This May we dove with Blue Angel and I think that they would be an excellent choice for your daughter to ease into Cozumel diving. Catherine and Matt are 2 of the instructors there, we dove with both of them during our stay. Both were very attentive, easy going and helpful I would highly recommend either one of them.

If you booked in advance and made a special request for ether of them, I'm sure something could be worked out. Here's a link to Blue Angel, http://www.lorenz.pl/angel/index.html

the other short list of dive ops I recommend are:

Dive with Martin www.divewithmartin.com

BlueXTSea www.bluextseadivers.com

Bottom Time Divers www.bottomtimedivers.net

in no particular order, all are very good ops with excellent DM's and will take very good care of your family.

e use Caribbean Divers, they are great with new divers and keep their groups small. They really give personalized service, our "newbie" divers rave about them.

We've been taking groups to Cozumel for 21 years, and they're our #1 choice. you do need to tell them your skill level and they'll take great care of you, the DM's are great.

Check with them on picking you up at Hotel Cozumel, they do it for us all the time. Cesar, Ruben and the rest of the gang are great divers and great people.

Good luck and have a great trip.
Happy Diving,

Britt
