I have seen photos and have known those who went on vacation to Mexico and while there got their hair all their hair put in those little braids, sometimes with beads. What I would like to know is if one can have that done in Cozumel, where to get it done, how long did it take, and how much did it cost?
Yes, you can get it done. There are several boothes around the square where people do this. Generally they charge by the number of braids you have done. I had it done one day during a norte while my husband sat at a nearby bar, drank beer and watched. I forget what I paid (I had my entire head done) but think it was around $30. I looked scalped and somewhat ridiculous.
I live for more bottom time..............if only I had gills

My office mate had hers done when we were down in the caribean. See all those lines of white between the braids, they turn bright red in the sun, blister and peel. It's probably a good idea to wear a hat after you get it done.
I did it in the plaza a few trips ago. Honestly, it was fun having it braided that night, but after one dive it looked really silly. Very ratty and fuzzy. My husband was kind enough to help me un-braid, which took about 1/2 hour and alot of conditioner to get it all out.
, but after one dive it looked really silly. Very ratty and fuzzy. .
That's so funny - it's exactly the opposite for me! I didn't have it done in Cozumel, but one year we headed "bush" for two weeks of roughing it and diving. No showers, no fresh water. So I braided my hair with little braids (it wasn't quite as neatly done as they do in Cozumel, but still worked) and didn't unbraid until the last day. Hair stayed in the braids and things were far less nasty than they would have been had it been free.
I agree, a good conditioner is essential afterwards!
