I just registered with this board and am a beginner diver with only a dozen dives, half in a quarry in Ohio and the other half around Ft. Lauderdale. I searched the site for information about Cozumel and came up with nothing I required. What I want to know is what condition are the reefs and general area around Cozumel since the big hurricane they got a while back. Wilma I think it was called. In your opinion would it be worthwhile going down there about now? If this question has been asked ad nauseum please excuse my ignorance but answer anyway. Thank you, Garrobo.

I think the diving in general is very good in Cozumel, although many have reported some of the shallower reefs have had alot of sand swept on them the slightly deeper reefs are still in excellent condition.

Welcome to the board...I have dove Gilboa in Ohio by the way which strangley is a nice quarry to dive....did I say that?....a quarry? Anyway I love the reef, but when someone is from the Great Lakes area the challenge of just getting to the ocean presents itself and requires much more planning (and money) than diving here in the Great Lakes......Go Blue!

Cozumel info is in a sub forum.

Go the the Mexico section and look under the sub forums.

One is dedicated to Cozumel

Thank you for your input about Cozumel. And "Sorry about that, Blue. Maybe next time." How about another matchup this year in a bowl game?

Hey Garrobo, I just got back from Cozumel. I can't comment on pre-Wilma Coz since this was my first time there. However......... For someone used to cold water dives and low vis dives, Coz was AMAZING. Topside still shows some damage but most must have been rebuilt since it looks fine. The diving was incredible. The variety and quantity of life was breathtaking. Lot's of different opinions on this topic in the cozumel forum, but the general consensus seemed to be Coz was still a fantastic dive location, even "post-Wilma". Based on that, I went ahead and booked a trip. It was everything I had hoped. I will be heading back ASAP!!!

Thank you, Genravian. That's just what I hoped to hear.
