Iberostar still being a pain to the Independent Dive Ops?
In the past, I've heard credible stories that Iberostar doesn't always play well with others - that they sometimes won't let the independent dive ops pick folks up at their dock (thus 'encouraging' their guests to use the on-site dive op).
Is this still the case, or have they lightened up a bit? Anyone know? I'm thinking of staying there but I don't want to dive with the house dive op; I'd like to use one of the independents that I usually dive with. If Iberostar is still being a pain, I'll stay somewhere else!
We have not had any problem with Iberostar in the last 2 years. Actually it is the Reef Club/Wyndham Resort that has been the most problematic, charging us for every diver picked up there, and sometimes making it difficult for their guests to board our boats. Seems pretty dumb to me as many divers have decided not to stay there because of that.
I stayed at Iberostar last January and they allowed Dive with Martin to pick up divers on their dock. I ended up diving with Dressel (their on site dive op) had no complaints.
I should mention that Dressel is a little more expensive then the other dive ops and they only use AL80's but to me it was well worth it just for the convenience of it. The other nice thing about them is during the SI, the boat returned to the resort for 20 or 30 mins or so you could grab something to eat or whatever.
