Just back from a week in Cozumel and wanted to put in a recommendation for Aldora Divers. First class operator with first class service. Our experience with them was a pleasure from beginning to end.
Our divemaster was David and our boat captain was "Gato".
They really took care of us. We never dove with more that six people total. Our gear was set up for us before we got on the boat and cleaned and stored for us after we dove.
We did six dives with them and our bottom times were unbelievable. (It was my first time using steel tanks) Our last day, first dive, we went to 100 ft initially and still managed to spend 70 minutes down. Second dive was to 50 ft with 80 minutes of bottom time.
One of the other divers had accidentally brought one of his sister's fins. I figured that was the end of his diving day, but they actually managed to get him a fin from another dive boat that was in the area. This is just one example of all the little problems they handled so very well.
I'm sold on them and will certainly use them for all of my future Cozumel diving.
On a side note, and I've noticed this every time I've been to Cozumel, I don't understand why people so often don't tip or under tip their divemasters? I've always considered $5 per dive to be the bare minimum tip (assuming you were happy). Just my two cents...
Same feelings here......we're going next month & using them for the 4th time in 1.5 years.......By chance, did you stay @ the Villas??.....It's very nice & convenient IMO....
We did not. We stayed at the Cozumel Palace this time, but I've been wanting to get away from the all inclusive resorts and I HAVE been looking at their villas. They do look quite nice. Did you stay there? I believe they are just north of town?

Correct just north about a mile from town square.....We've stayed there the last 2 times & IMO very nice with pretty good shore diving as CZM goes--when the winds not up......

Thanks--I'm hoping to return to Cozumel in Oct or Nov. I just checked their rates again and they are quite reasonable. I'll have to try them out. Thanks again for the recommendation.
Did you happen to find a nearby grocery store? I believe I've heard of one on that end of town. The only one I've seen, though, is that giant one at the other end -- Chedraui, I think. We DO eat in town a lot, but it'd be nice to pick up some groceries, too.
I agree with you -- We had an excellent time with Aldora. We stayed at the Villa and were very pleased -- It's an easy walk into town. The managers took us to the grocery store the first day to stock up, and after that, we did refills on foot which worked fine. Were I to go back to Coz, I'd definitely stay with them and dive with them again.

How do you know they don't tip? Not everyone chooses to hand out tips in front of other people, or feels the need to tell those they're diving with know how much they tip. Just because you don't see it or aren't told about, doesn't always mean it isn't happening.

You are absolutely right. I'm sorry. It has just been my impression and my impression may be wrong. I don't discuss what I tip with the other people I'm diving with at the time and would never expect they would with me either.
Maybe they handle it some other way and I am mistaken. This is not a knee-jerk reaction on my part. It is something I have come to believe after quite a few trips over several years.
I have spent a week diving with the same other divers on the boat and watched them hand the divemaster two dollars for two people who just did two dives each and do that each day all week long. I just think good divemasters deserve more.

Like TS&M said, on arrival day Greg or Kay will/can take you to a big grocery store, over by Taco Row ??34th Avenue maybe??...If you need to get back later on, they should be able to take you back........
The San Francisco supermarket is on Ave. 30 at Juarez -- center of town. There's another store - Super Maz - a little closer on Ave. 30 at Calle 8. If you can't find a free ride, cab fare from Villa Aldora to any supermarket should be about $5 one way for two passengers.
