Well it looks like we're in for some serious wind and rain starting tonight here in Cozumel.
L94 finally got a name and Dolly will be moving in tonight, the Harbormaster closed the port this afternoon and will probably remain closed tomorrow morning. By tomorrow afternoon we should be able to take out some dive trips, and by Tuesday moring we should be back to blue skies, sunshine and calm seas.
The streets will be flooded in town as usual, and there probably won't be much going on tonight on the main square....

Forecasters have it moving through the Yucatan overnight and off into the Gulf
From the forcasters:
Dolly is moving toward the northwest near 15 mph...24 km/hr. A northwestward or west-northwestward motion is forecast during the next couple of days...with a gradual decrease in forward speed. On this track...the center of Dolly will move across the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico tonight and emerge over the southern Gulf of Mexico on Monday.
Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph...75 km/hr...with higher gusts. Slight strengthening is possible today before Dolly reaches the Yucatan Peninsula. Slow strengthening is forecast on Monday once Dolly emerges over the southern Gulf of Mexico.
Dolly is expected to produce rainfall of 4 to 6 inches across the northern Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico and western Cuba...with isolated maximum amounts up to 10 inches.
That's it...let's get everyone worked up over a little tropical weather (heavy rain and a little wind - stronger than usual, but not devastating) so that we can spend the next three months explaining to those who aren't familiar with the difference in TS's and Hurricane's (even mild hurricane's) that we are fine and that there's nothing to worry about!
The models and forecasts are all showing it all the way to the other side of the peninsula by 8am tomorrow, so I am preparing for diving as usual tomorrow morning. I prefer to be optimistic...even if I end up being wrong.

That's why I put the image of the map and copied in the forecast. It's going to be passing through overnight and it's 4-6 inches of rain AT MOST.
Before all this stuff was so easy to find in a zillion weather sites online, people went on Caribbean vacations in the summer and fall and came home saying, "it was great, just a bit of rain." Now it's, "oh no, there's a Tropical (insert weather system here). There goes the vacation."
Yes, we were on the boat and geared up for our first Cozumel dive of our vacation this afternoon when all of boats were called back into port by the Harbor Master. Hopefully, the storm will pass quickly and not cause too many problems.
Oh well, at least I got in a good cave dive at Aerolito this morning!

After last year having to evacuate for Hurricane Dean, and heading to Cozumel this week, I think it is a topic worth bringing up.
