Dove coz today

Dove cozumel today friday 29/8
it was a great dive, dove the santa rosa wall, there is always something new or great about this amazing dive, the swimthroughs etc. It was a little windy, sunny good visibility saw a black tip shark,we were told there is a small school of small black tips around, a huge green moray, then at chankanaab saw a supersized parrotfish, it was great.
We have a trip going out tomorrow as well, but we will decide at 730am when the harbor master opens or closes port, right now 2130 in cancun wind is northbound at about 35km/h, there were small white caps in coz. Cancun and playa. We came back on the 4pm ferry to playa and there were ferries with people coming in still.
Tomorrow we are going to palancar wall if it opens.
Hope this info is useful

Last passenger ferry was last night at 6pm and I was told last night (although not sure I believe this) that they aren't bringing the ferries back until Tuesday...it's a little overkill if you ask me...but they didn't ask me So you won't be diving Cozumel today unless you bring your own boat and CZM park permits

Our boats are headed out on schedule. It rained briefly last night and we've got clear blue sunny skies right now...but there are some clouds looming off in the distance, so I'm sure the rain will start this afternoon.

Looks like Cozumel has been spared completely , Gustav is just above our position now, and all seems to indicate that it will continue the projected path NNW, I don't see it making a hard left.

Thank you to all that prayed for Cozumel, let's turn our prayers now to everyone in the path of Gustav...

Its going to cause a lot of devastation and loss of life on Cuba in the next 24h. It isn't likely to get quite as big as Katrina, but it may make landfall on Cuba as a Cat 4.

Yahoo!

I just heard from my friends at Neptune Divers in Grand Cayman, I'm so glad they were spared as well!

Thank you for your concerns and prayers, we got extremely luck with this storm as it jumped around and finally moved by us on the weaker side of the storm so 60 some miles away we only got 30-40 MPH winds with gusts to around 60 to 70.

The power company turned of the power at some time between midnight and 3 am and it was turned back on at 8am this morning, outside we have leaves to clean up and a couple broken branches but the rest is all good didn’t even push over the satellite dish, haven’t checked the boats yet but sure everything is good there as well.

Thanks again for your e-mails

KK & Casey

Congratulations on the miss!! He was not a storm to be ignored but soon may be for those there and traveling to there. Have they started unboarding shop windows yet?

Looks like he's a Cat-4 now going for Cat-5. Tough one for western Cuba. Projections for Louisiana into Texas suggest seeking high ground ASAP whether the windows are covered are not. If he does hit that cold eddy, that could weaken him a little, but still a major threat for the lowlands. A couple of models project him turning left and heading down the coast. :11: Talk about worst case scenarios - just nearly! Looks like Hanna is a non-threat to the Yucatan for now anyway...

Great dives today in Coz - Columbia Deep and Cedral Wall. Surface conditions were a little choppy, but vis was 80 - 90 feet.

As of 2pm, sunny and HOT in Cozumel with very light winds.

I agree there will be devastation, but probably not much loss of life, Cubans and their government are actually quite effective at preparing for such events, they have been preparing for several days now, evacuating, and the government there spends quite a bit of resources to help people get out, specially the poorest people, and they don't have a choice either, they send the army and buses and make everyone evacuate. For all the social repression in Cuba they actually do take the "parent" role pretty well imho.
