Blue Angel Resort, need advice

Hi all. After all the good reports on Blue Angel, I am going to fly over there for a 7-10 day dive trip. I am going solo and coming from LAX to CZM arriving via Continental air arriving around 2:30pm. Questions I have are:
Does one take a taxi from airport to resort or shuttle/van?
How are their rooms and ammenties, like rinse tanks, showers, security, etc? I saw where they have package deals for two tank dives in the am for 5 days. How much would it be for a third afternoon, and a night dive? I don't own my reg/bc so would need to rent these for the week. What is their rate for rental? I was also interested in maybe doing an AOW and Nitrox course. Are these offered here?
Sorry for so many questions, but I would appreciate any tips/advice one has to offer.
Been freediving in Southern California for many years and scuba in Philippines, but want to try a relaxing COZ trip.

Good choice; I have stayed at the hotel which is now Blue Angel Resort many, many times. I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else.

You'll take an airport shuttle to the hotel from the airport. When you come out of Customs IGNORE ANYONE WHO APPROACHES YOU AND ASKS YOU WHERE YOU ARE STAYING, ETC. ANYONE WHO DOES THAT IS NOT AFFILIATED WITH THE AIRPORT OR ANYTHING ELSE "OFFICIAL"; THEY ARE TRYING TO ROPE YOU INTO A TIMESHARES PRESENTATION. Sorry for the shouting, but you don't want to have anything to do with these people, and most first timers to Cozumel fall for their tricks. Bear right out of Customs and go to the window built into the wall (NOT ANY OF THE FREESTANDING TABLES) and tell them how many folks you have and where you are going. Take the tix they give you and go out to where the shuttles are loading; there will be guys out there who will direct you to the shuttle that will take you to BA.

The rooms are fairly large and comfortable but not plush. The AC's work well, and every room has a bath with a shower but no tub. Most rooms have fridges, and all rooms have phone and TV. There are room safes for your use, and I have never had any sort of a security problem there. There is someone at the desk 24/7, and they lock a gate across the entrance from about midnight until about 6 AM.

There is an outside shower by the dive shop and a rinse tank as well. They offer AOW courses, and possibly Nitrox. Their instructor is a burly goodnatured bear of a guy from Chicago named Matt (Mateo). He is a great guy and an excellent instructor.

As for pricing, that's something you'll have to discuss with them yourself; deals come and go.

Tell Jeanie, Mateo, Eva, Robert, and Jorge hello for me!

Thanks for the shuttle tip. I had a co-worker who bought into the timeshare deal,(no deal), in Cancun two years ago. I am used to the "touts" at airports, ferries landings, and bus stations in the Philippines.
I will try and e-mail Eva and her husband to get some pricing on room/dive package. I am pretty low maintanance for food, love cold beer. As long as the rooms are clean and not cramped that's fine with me. I would like to do more than two dives a day though, not everyday, but at least have that option available.

Afternoon and night dives are available if enough people sign up. We were there a couple of weeks ago and it appeared they had night dives every other night. However you can shore dive anytime for free including at night- just ask to get a flashlight before the shop closes.

Have fun! Jean in MO

"low maintenance for food"

When I was there in April, they included with my 6 day dive package, breakfast every morning, lunch every day that I did boat dives, and one dinner. Needless to say, I spent very little $$$ on food during that trip. They do have several varieties of ice cold beer. However, I found their strawberry margaritas to be the best I have had to date. Their breakfasts and lunches are both generous and fairly good. I gained 5 pounds during a seven night stay.

Blue Angel Resort = nice, honest, helpful people, secure clean rooms, pool, shore diving availability, a very experienced crew of dive masters, and from what I have seen and heard from others, a very good instructor in Mateo.

Have a great time in Coz, incredible reefs......been on 7 trips to the island. Cabs are plentyful and reasonably priced....Be sure to check out the rest of the island while topside..... a few cerveza at "Coconuts" on the other side always a good time.....if travelling solo...
If you are looking for some more adventourus diving, Check out the Cenotes in the Mayan Riveria, some local shops in Playa Delcarmen can hook you up.

Thanks Turk9. I read up on their food. Breakfast every morning, lunch on any day you dive, and one dinner. I like sol, dosxx lager, bohemia, pacifico, pretty much all the mexicans beers except for tecate and coronas. I enjoy drift dives and wall dives are really cool. I'm still a "newbie" to scuba, but am very comfortable in the ocean, surf, swim, freedive (snorkel), for many years.

When are you going to be there? We were there in March and had such a good time, we're headed back next month! The food included with the packages is really good (steak chimi for lunch!), and there are so many great spots for dinner- ask Alex at the front desk and he'll send you in the right direction. Don't pass up on the shore dives, especially at night- lots of rays, squid and octos right off shore- and all within 25' making for a nice long dive!

I am hoping for the last week of July. Never made any night dives. I guess afternoon shore dives would be nice. I'll need to rent only an octo/bc for my time there as I have everything else. My dive light is a small unit, so maybe I can rent a larger hand grip type for the night dives. I wouldn't mind a nice walk into town for dinner, sounds like there are several choices for eats. I am not the party type, so most of my drinking would be at the resort in the evening while listening to the ocean
