The trips I have been on require you to have 6 months left on your passport. You should probably get it renewed before you go. You have plenty of time to get it done.

Some countries require 6 months, some don't, but all may change their requirements at any time. My guess is that Mexico does not require 6 months, but why would you want to take a chance? If it were me, I'd go ahead and do it now in case there are any holdups.
I am going to CZM the first week of May and my passport expires the middle of May, will this cause any problems?
When you show up at the airport the reps are going to check your passport and they won't let you board. Got plenty of time file the paperwork and relax.

No, you don't need a passport to enter Mexico. You will however need a valid (on the day of admission) passport to re-enter the US. As long as you’re certain that you won't get held over before your expiration, then you'll be fine. However given the length of time you have before your trip, you mine as well renew it. Also be sure to check the State Departments travel advisories before you go. Other wise have a safe and fun trip, and have some tequila for me!
