Staying 2 wks in May with rental car. Have researched Christi's list for resturants now looking for some places to enjoy live music after a day of diving with drinks that won't break the bank. If some of Christi's recommendations have live music all the better. We enjoy all types of music.
just about anywhere around the plaza/square....I have seen people on the sidewalks playing and singing....I think on certain nights Wet Wendys also has live bands/music....I am sure there are others....but I am usually snoring by the time the music starts
I believe there is a live music venue across the street from Villablanca. I have also seen a rooftop club with live music on Melgar (the main drag) somewhere between the square and Puta Langosta. And of course there is the square on Sunday nights.

I believe that is La Hatch. They have a happy hour, food, and live music.
Right on the ocean across from Villablanca. Walking distance from Blue Angel, Hotel COZ, and SCC or Park Royal and El Cid? A longer walk from downtown.
Ditto for Money Bar on Fridays and Saturdays. There is a big local expat crowd that is there and always a very good turnout of people and the band is really good. Mostly pop rock -top 40 but plenty of people dancing. Swing by early for Happy Hour and catch a beautiful sunset as it sits right out on the water. When the Red eye band finishes, they usually pack up and go play at Viva Mexico.
If you don't mind staying up a little late and don't missing one day of diving (since you are going to be there for two weeks) DO go out and listen to some Live salsa! Great salsa band that starts at 11:00 at La Palapita. It's locate near the Villa Blanca Hotel across the street from Papa Hogs and next to La Hatch which also has live music (mostly rock) on Thurs/Fri/Sat. Salsa lessons start at 10:00 and they are only $5.00. Lots of locals come out for great music by this really good salsa band and features local artist/musician Jorge Aqino.
If there is not enough action at La Palapita, go into town to Tiki Tok. Guaranteed great live salsa music there also starting at 11:00 until the wee hours of the morning.
Another good place to catch live music is the recently renovated Wet Wendys. Located right off the square, if you friend them on Facebook you should get notified of their live music venues. Open mic from time to time as well. For the last few Sundays, across the street from Wet Wendys, Tequilla Town has had some live music. Its just a small tequilla store with tables and chairs set up but we have managed to all have a very good time there doing some open mic stuff.
You can also check out Kelly's, as they have bands playing there a lot as well.
Another good place for live music is Piratas on 5th. Mostly rock. Very fun place.
Many times there is live music on Fri and sat in the park in front of the police station. Of course, there is usually live music on Sunday nights in the plaza (square).
Here's a list of some of the places that have live music but its not quite up-to-date.
I believe there is a new place called Ohana's also. It is on up 5th a few blocks from Wet Wendy's. It had a band one of the nights we walked by a few month's ago.
