Crackdown on tour operators who feed the fish and allow divers to hold the reef

Deputy Director of the Cozumel Park said repeat offenders who allow divers to hold onto reefs for any reason or feed fish are at risk to loose their permits.

The deputy director of the Cozumel Reefs National Park said that when you discover a practice not permitted, he called up care for offenders and depending on the number of relapses and the severity of the actions can revoke permission to access and so lose permanent.
Similarly, the marine park will strengthen the vigilance with regard to the bad practices of guides, instructors, photographers, videographers and irresponsible tourists who insist on feeding the fish with tortillas or sustain the coral because they can not with the current.

    It's about time.......

And how exactly are they going to enforce this? Are they sending Scuba Police down at every dive site every day to watch? Or are they going to depend on diver's reporting their DM or other divers?
It is a great idea in theory, but .....

They should look at the practices of the Bonaire Marine Park and their management plan. They have been doing it for a while now and do a pretty good job on the enforcement end of things. But of course with any of these types of initiatives you have to have the compliance of the dive tourism industry. This involves getting all stakeholders involved in the creation and implementation of the management plan. When everybody is on board you are much more likely to have a successful conservation plan and can sustain or increase the carrying capacity of the reef.
