Hola all,

So we're trying to come up with a way of getting CozumelRadio.net back off the ground and have come up with a new concept.

... What do you think about Cozumel Radio becoming a "community" radio station?

We've noticed that the people that used to listen to us and want to listen to us, you guys, have the most interest in the station coming back. So why not make YOU, the listeners a part of the station?

We're thinking of setting up some sort of 'membership' system, with a PayPal or other account where our listeners can contribute funds to help pay for the radio station's music royalty fees. Music royalty fees are what caused us to shut down the station last Spring. They can be VERY expensive & the more people listened(we were charged by 'listener hours'), the more we were charged for them, so it became a catch 22 situation for the former owner of the station to make enough ad money and keep up with the fees.

We'll set up a donation structure and possibly offer small incentives as "thank you" gifts, if we can afford them. Say a bumper sticker for a $25 donation, a Coz Radio or Shark Tank T-shirt with a minimum $50 contribution, a coffee mug for $100 donation ... and still accept memberships/sponsorships from businesses as well, sort of like your local PBS tv station does....if you still have one.

If we can generate enough membership & sponsorship funds, we can go completely commercial free! We'd still like to have business sponsors (both on and off the island), as I mentioned and would offer up station "segments" for sponsorship, for the Lan'shark Report (community calendar & events), and Dive Reports as being sponsored by them. "The Lan'shark report brought to you by [business name here]" and "This segment of Cozumel Radio is brought to you by [business name here]"

we've had a lot of requests to bring back CozumelRadio.net, but need to raise some serious funds to do so. We've recently been in the process of re-vamping the website...check it out, www.cozumelradio.net and are currently selling ad space on there to gain funds to restart the music stream, but quite frankly, are having a hard time getting on-island business onboard for various reasons.

If you haven't heard of us, by the way, Cozumel Radio is an English speaking, online radio station dedicated to everything Cozumel & the beach/scuba diving lifestyle. Backed by an eclectic music mix of what we like to refer to as "not just beach music, but music FOR the beach", we try and bring you all the latest news and island information and going-on's, along with up to date Dive Reports; Christi from BlueXTSea and ScubaTony from well, ScubaTony :D used to do 'live' weekly dive reports for us and hopefully one of them or an other interested dive op will help us out again...and of course The Shark Tank radio show :D

The station is actually a U.S. company, based out of Texas and our "station music hub" is in California ('Live365', is a service much like 'iheartradio'). We are accessible through not only the internet on your computer, but also on smart devices with the Live365 app.

The majority of our listeners are folks just like the ScubaBoard crowd, and many are on here. People who are "back home", where ever they live, and either just trying to keep the "island time" feel and keep connected with Coz, or preparing and getting psyched up for their next trip to the island. So U.S based LDS's and dive/beach/vacation related business are also welcome and wanted onboard.

The majority of our regular listeners have been in Texas, Oklahoma, California, Michigan & Missouri, with the rest spread out all over the U.S, Canada & throughout the World! I had 2 regulars on the Shark Tank, one from the Netherlands and one from Japan almost every week.

We're pretty excited about this new concept we're kicking around and would like your feedback on it. We know you can join a satellite radio service for $100/year and have your choice of a jillion stations, but NONE of them will make you feel like you are on Cozumel like this station does.
