We are taking a cruise in early February 2015 and when we are in Cozumel, I would like to go diving. (I am getting certified just for this cruise).

As there will be a lot of people in Cozumel that day, six ships total, we want to spend some time at someplace with crowd control and have decided on Nachi Cocom.

However, I have read only one thing about the dive shop nearby and that was very poor.

I am looking for somewhere along the way or at least not too far away that can take me diving, preferably in the morning. Then, I can go spend a few hours with my lovely wife at the beach.

We get in at 8AM and leave at 4PM so something that would get me back to the beach around noon would be great. If I can't find something that will get me back early enough to spend some good beach time, that would be okay but not my first preference.

Any suggestions, please, even if it is not that close to Nachi?

I appreciate the help, I am a newb and could use some guidance.

Thanks.

One approach would be to hook up with a dive op close to where your ship arrives, and have them drop you at Nachi Cocum following your dives (and/or maybe even do your SI there, as well)?

Sorry I can't help you on specific dive ops that might be cooperative with that idea.

I don't know of anyone who will pick you up at the ferry pier, but Sergio Sandoval Sr. has a small boat that you could rent for the day. You'll need to check pricing with him, but if there are 4 or more of you, it would probably equate to the same price as booking with a dive op.

His office # is +52 1 987 872 0640, and his cell # is +52 1 987 115 0905.

Arrival date, ship name and docking pier info may help.

Dive with Martin is near the southern International Pier and Puerta Maya.

Aldora.com and others are near Punta Langosta in town.

What time will you get off the boat? 900 AM. Then allow time to get to a dive shop, fill out paperwork, be fitted for gear, etc and you won't be on a boat to dive before 930 AM. Aldora's normal dives leave at 730 AM and get back at 130 PM (six hours). You do not have six hours to dive if you need to be back at the big boat around 300 PM.

Ask Aldora if they can just do one dive and drop you off at Nachi Cocom.

See who the dive ops are at the near to Nachi Cocom hotels of Allegro, Occidental Grand and Iberostar. Some of these dive ops may do single tank trips. If they allow non-guest divers, that could be your best option.

Another option if Nachi Cocom is not mandatory is Playa Palancar which has a dive op.

Playa Palancar - Rancho Dalila Palancar - COZUMEL

Likewise, Aldora normally stop at Mr Sanchos for a surface interval and that may allow time with your wife and still do two dives if the timing works.

Check out these options to see if you get closer to a solution. The folks at Aldora or most any dive shop may have better knowledge of who does what and be able to find a good match even if they are not for you on this trip. Sometimes a phone call is better and faster.

Also check with Christi to see if she can help. She does a beach club surface interval somewhere

Since those are both AIs with pretty effective security, would the OP be able to get through the gate? Because if they couldn't, that long taxi ride for nothing would suck....

as long as you have a reservation with Prodive, you can enter the hotel, the diveshop will inform security of your arrival and escort you to the diveshop
