Who: The University of South Carolina Beaufort's Scuba Club ( http://www.USCBscuba.com ) along with three non-student divers, three of which are Master Diver PADI level divers, one of which is AOW certified, and three of which are earning their AOW certifications on this dive. No, you do not have to have any sort of University affiliation to dive.

What: We'll be diving the Betsy Ross, a 430' US Navy warship (Liberty class). There's also a 175' Coast Guard Cutter on site. 110' max depth. None of us will be penetrating, with the exception of some very mild specialty course educational stuff for the AOW certification. Water's 82 degrees, currents are mild, vis is around 80', and there's lots and lots of every kind of fish in the sea there.

When: We're leaving Beaufort in the morning of October 26th and doing two dives. We'll be back that afternoon.

Where: 17 miles due East of Beaufort, South Carolina (near Hilton Head.) We have a 30' rigid inflatable with twin 250 hp Yamaha 4 stroke outboards. There's lots of electronics and safety gear on board. Captain's Coast Guard certified for 24 passengers up to 20 miles offshore. There's only seven of us. The boat's awesome, very capable, and will run 60 mph in smooth water. Check out more info at http://www.lowcountryraftingadventures.com These are the same kind of boats that the Coast Guard uses in open water to chase "gofast" drug smugglers in the Keys and Bahamas.

Why: If you have to ask, then this isn't your trip.

How: Cost for anyone participating is just $70 for the boat. You'll need to bring your own gear, including air. There are no local places to fill, so make sure to arrive with full tanks. Two AL80's or 104's work well in thie environment and at this depth. None of us do deco diving, but you are welcome to. Top of the ship is at just 40', max depth is at 110'. Good EANx area if you want to do that too.

We'll also surely want to boil Lowcountry shrimp afterwards and chow in a big way once we get back. We'll be coming and going from my family's large home here, so they'll be showers, hoses, and all else in the way of creature comforts.

Realistically, we have no more than four slots open on this boat. The rest are taken.

More information can be found at http://www.USCBscuba.com or contact me, SeaJay, directly at SeaJay@USCBscuba.com.

This will simply be a fun, easy and interesting dive. All are invited!
