Headed out to the lake today for first trip of the season. Any other Arkansas divers spearfish on Ouachita? How's the visibility?

dove the dam last monday. vis was about 10 to 15 ft in the 0-30 feet depth range after 30 it seem to clear up. water still little cold 74 deg at 25ft. At 126 ft temp was 41. Lots of classes going on at the dam right now so get there early or go on a weekday.

Dove on the 2nd near point #3. Surface temp was 78 and thermocline at 22'. Don't know what the temp was below that cause I'm such a whimp I don't do 126' and 41 degrees!
Vis was really sucky where I was. About 6' horizantal and the water stunk of the moss and bottom. Guess near the dam is a better choice during this "monsoon" season. Saw no fish to speak of. Lots of 'gills on the grassy humps we visited, but not much else. Hope the rains slow down a bit so it can get a chance to clear up. Hard to spearfish under these conditions, but a bad day on the lake is still better than a good day at work!

We have had lots of rain. Crawdad island should be good right now if you have a boat.
We are going back in the next couple of weeks. Will do a lot of dives because I am off on vacation starting on the 9th. Sis in law will be in from new york. May need to get out of the house quite often. Maybe the fishing will pick up too. My son is hungry for some more spearfishing. May go to the dam for my deep dives and 3 sisters for the fishing or take the boat to crawdad for both. Thanks for the update. I will update you as I dive thru my vacation.

Never tried crawdad, but frequented a number of places close nearby. Will definitely try that area later this week. Should be clearest area of the lake with all this rain. In the past most every time I go somebody is camped on crawdad and I hate to dive right at their campsite.

I like crawdad island It can be crowded in the summer. There is a boat hull on the north side of the island. It gets deep with big rocks on the west side. There is a little
cut that will take you from the state park marina to crawdad that is good to dive. It still has all the trees there from when they flooded the lake. it goes to arounf 165 ft there.

Went to Crawdad last Thursday. It is truly an interesting dive spot, but we saw little or no fish there. Just dove the north side as a Fish & Wildlife officer was escorting a bunch of scouts or something on a snorkeling outing on the south side. Water was about 10' vis. Up around Bird Island vis was a little less, but we saw more fish.

I dove 3 sisters yesterday. The vis was poor around 6ft in some places. We did see lots of bass. with the lake being so high for so long the weeds are bad. If they do not get the weed problem under control they will take over the lake.

I dove three sisters friday before last. Saw a few bass and shot a decent shortnose gar. Glad season starts on wednesday! Gonna shoot up some whisker fish!
