Open letter to ScubaBoard users:
It has come to my attention that ScubaBoard is involved in a lawsuit regarding the postings of some of its users. In my opinion, from the little I have heard of this, it appears to be a first amendment issue. I, for one, do not want to have any of my listings on this board or any other forum censored because the owner of the forum will have to be concerned that what is written may offend someone and that they may be included in a lawsuit.
While I do not have anything more than a very general outline of the lawsuit against ScubaBoard, I do know that the forum we all use to our advantage is operated on a shoestring. I have reason to believe that the funds to defend this lawsuit will cause Net Doc and ScubaBoard great hardship and may inevitably create a situation where they have to shut down. That said, I have asked Pete (Net Doc) to set up a method of receiving contributions for defense of this lawsuit. Please help by sending what you can to a Paypal account at legaldefense@scubaboard.com . Rest assured that all of these funds will be used for legal fees and nothing else.
We all use this forum for free; the only income received by ScubaBoard is from the banner advertisements, which do little more than cover the expenses. Anything you can contribute will be greatly appreciated and will allow us to continue to use this valuable resource.
The suit is real and dangerous to ScubaBoard. Since it is in Federal Courts, the estimates range from $10,000 to $100,000. I could sure use your help. Thanks.
Pete, Wow, that's amazing, but typical of our times, I guess. I'd contribute but we have been strapped since the stock market melt down. You would think that there would be no basis for a suit about anything, as it is one's choice to participate on a forum.

What is the lawsuit about? A small contribution from everybody would help.
5 minutes searching GOOGLE and SCUBABoard gave me enough information to stick my foot in my mouth~ which somehow I have resisted since the inception of these threads.

Baseless or not, we still have to defend it. As Jax pointed out, even $5.00 from enough members would add up. The more you can give, the easier it will be for us to stay alive.
