Look around for threads on GUE primer. For the vast majority of folks, all the equipment you need to change to try it out is:
-7 foot hose ($20 right now at DiveSeekers I believe)
-BP/W (can borrow or most instructors have a spare to rent you
-Non-split fins ($30-50 on eBay for JetFins in really good shape)

Don't worry about some of the finer points on required equipment yet...low volume masks are nice but not a deal breaker to not have one, no need for backup lights (although a used Scout or similar is nice to hold your d-ring down), etc.

i agree don't worry too much about the gear - rather get with the local community and dive with them. They can steer you in the right direction and often have gear that you can borrow to try out.

If you were in NC i would gladly lend you a singles rig to try, etc. I imagine its the same everywhere (at least it has been for me)

go from there and enjoy Its about having fun

When your ready to buy, ebay can be your friend and others in the community WW

I found that the Instructor has much of what is needed, just ask. Also the local DIR divers are always willing to help out. For example much of my gear has gone through tech 2 without me...lol.

update: Scheduled a PADI drysuit class with a GUE-trained instructor for the end of the month. We discussed hammering on my skills and not making it easy. We'll see where that leads, hopefully I'll take a few of y'all up on your diving offers and get a better idea of team skills.
