IIRC, the radioisotope in the detector is Americium-241. When it decays below a certain level, it is time to replace the detector. I think 10 years is the recommended interval, but that is from memory. Probably a good time to replace 'em with new ones.
All three smoke detectors were probably @ 8 to 10 years old. One even looked burned; smokey, but no heat damage.
I replaced them with machines that include battery back up, and have power indicator lights, and two of the new ones are also CO detectors.
Very nice - it was a ball sponsored by the Order of Juno, Guests (like us) were required to be in "Costume de Rigueur" - Floor length evening dresses for the ladies, and white tie and tails for the men. The doors opened at 8, closed at 8:50, and the event began at 9 with the presentation of the Order of Juno ladies and their escorts. The ball committee then had a program of dances by the ladies to introduce the theme of the ball, which was followed by a few formal dances for the OOJ folks. The food and drink rooms then opened at about 10:15, and we ate, drank, and danced until after midnight. Some of the pics on FB are a bit blurry since I didn't use any flash during the formal part.
The one downside was that the bar was catered, and they used really cheap liquor. Fortunately, no hangover despite the cheap booze.
Life is a beach ... a walk in the sand, a tropical drink, a calypso band!
There's a place, where the boat leaves from. It takes away, all your big problems.
Your worries, you can drop them in the blue ocean. But, you gotta get away to where the boat leaves from.
Everyone needs to believe in something ... I believe I'll go diving.
Wow, that thread turned funny quick. Interesting replies.
And DNY's thread became a ghost town!

Thanks! Need some of that to get going this morning.
I did some sort of damage to my knee yesterday, bowling with my dive club. We raised almost $800 for SUDs at our first ever bowling fund raiser, and had a ton of fun doing so!
I must have stepped wrong or twisted oddly, though, because my knee is in agony this morning.
I hope it does not prevent me from enjoying diving next week... I am sure I can dive, but climbing ladders could be a real hassle if this doesn't improve by then.
