based on the 2011 Achievements and 2012 Goals thread by Rhone Man I figured I'd do a DNY version for those that rarely venture out of the sandbox...What were some of your diving achievements from this past year and what are your goals for next year? Also, for those of your that dove with fellow DNYers, what was your favorite DNY dive or event?
2011 Achievements - finished working on and got my DM
- took a DAN instructor class
- had fun diving and learned a lot
2012 Goals
- dive more than in 2011 (shooting for 150 dives) including at least 75 local dives, 25 deco dives and 50 vacation dives
- assist with at least 4 classes and complete my discover scuba diving internship to allow me to run DSD's for the Boy Scouts
- guide at least 6 dives for the LDS I took my DM with
- retake and pass fundies
- dive the Pacific Northwest, Palau, Newfoundland, the Great Lakes, the 1000 Islands and Florida
Favorite DNY Dive/Event
- Dutch Springs opening weekend, I think it took at least 4 hours and at least one trip to a dive shop for one dive under a half hour....
No truly major dive mile stones this last year, except maybe my first doubles dive at the Turkey Fry. First St Lawrence dive, and first dives with my local dive club (after all these years as a member) were fun.
Bonaire in June with my DNY friends was a major + for 2011! As was getting Colleen to try Coz diving, and complete her AOW.
For 2012 I am not sure yet, that's like next year man!
Getting Colleen into a BP/W to at least try it out is an early 2012 goal.
More diving, practically anywhere (anywhere that it is fairly warm anyway) is a goal.
Start planning a big 2013 trip.
See if I can actually start a small online dive jewelery business, to help fund the 2013 dive trip ( and acquire more dive goodies )
What a great thread you've started. I'm afraid I don't have anything to contribute, but do look forward to seeing what you all have been up to.
My ambition for the new year is to get out and dive! Have had new gear for several months that has not yet even gotten wet. Need to fix that! And, will be training for both personal knowledge and to assist me in advising our clientele. Will pop in and post updates as they become available.

ghasp! does that mean you're going to the dark side?
Dived in several cave systems; Ginnie Springs, Jackson Blue, Little River, Madison Blue and Peacock Springs, with my fave cave buddy.
Met, hugged and stalked one of my all time fave SBers, NWGratefulDiver for two whole days during NSS/CDS Workshop.
Bonaire with some of my fave DNYers.
NC wrecks with some of my fave DNYers despite Hurricane Irene stirring up the bottom.
Tobermory with my favorite midwest DNYers and my Canadian DNYers.
St Lawrence with some of my fave downstate, out of state and upstate DNYers.
2012 Goals
As much diving, dive trips and dive training as my wallet and my schedule permits.
Favorite DNY Dive/Event
Favorite DNY Dive: Jackson Blue, the first cave dive when Donna and I dove as a two person team post-class, no reel issues/tie-off issues, no exiting teams to wait for. We wanted to keep going but turned the dive when we hit our agreed turn pressure.
Favorite DNY Event: Extremely difficult to pick one favorite cause every event, gathering, meal, SI while off-gassing brings a huge smile and chuckle to my heart. Is it okay if my answer is EVERY SINGLE DANG DNY event. It really is the peeps and we've got some goofy, silly, unstable, fun-loving diving fools in the mix.
THAT is something we must never allow to happen. Training can be great at times, and increase our skill and improve the overall experience, BUT it should never be allowed to suck the enjoyment out of this sport.
Too dam many things we do in this life we do because we have to, but diving is our chance to escape to another level of existence, where we can escape the drudgery of the rest of life for a while. It should always remain fun.
