Can't wait to start diving! I was in a car accident a little over a year ago, and I'm not sure that will cause any limitations? I had nine broken ribs on the left side and a punctured lung. As far as I know I'm as "healed" as I can get. Anyone know if this would affect my ability to go diving...or the depth, etc?

Welcome to SB

Sorry I can give you any advice, you have to consult DR before go for any sport.

welcome to the board. A friend of mine broke three ribs and his back about one year ago as well. The doctor gave him a clean bill of health to dive again. Go ask.

Howdy and welcome to SB!

You do have a lot of resources on this. You and your doc can consult with DAN medics at no charge, and we do have a Dive Medicine forum for discussion of such. Good luck.

Good to have you here. Click here to PM me if I can help you get started in our various forums.

Several scuba certifying agencies use the medical statement found here:
http://www.wrstc.com/downloads.php

The included guidelines to physicians show pneumothorax secondary to trauma or pleural penetration as a relative risk condition; and further say that spirometry should be normal before and after exercise.

I have no relevant medical credentials, but think this means “it depends”. Sounds like you’d have a good chance of being cleared to dive; but only your doctor can say.
