You might consider that your body (not just hands/feet) are getting chilled. My hands get tingly and numb when I'm chilled overall. Warming and rubbing my hands does nothing, but warming my core (putting on a jacket) does. If I keep my core warm (even snow camping) my hands stay great. If I get chilled (cold room at work) my hands let me know. This all happens without color or apparent circulatory changes in my hands/fingers.
