I got a ridiculously good price on a hog switchback 2nd stage from DRIS recently. During my initial inspection I noticed that the backing of the diaphragm has changed from metal (as on my original hog 2nd) to a black plastic backing. Is this unique to the switchback, or do all diaphragms now have black plastic backing?

I was always impressed with the metal back. What is the reason for the switch?

lower resistance against the lever, better performance of the second stage.

If you want a metal backed one, shoot me a email with your address.

Thanks for the info. I am excited to try out the left sided feed compared to two right sided regs when sidemounting.

It makes sense about the friction, I am curious if I will be able to tell the difference underwater.
