    Transportation Issues

How are you guys transporting your housings while on small dive boats in choppy seas? I’ve found this an issue on choppy seas since the housing is large and will not fit into a small camera bucket, and holding it the entire way on my lap to the dive site is a serious chore. If I leave it on the deck or seat and we hit chop, it gets beat up real bad.. I’m trying to figure a resolve to this problem.. any thoughts? I don’t have any issues on larger boats, but small 6 pack boats in rough seas is a problem.

    Hello from Equinox!!!
What model housing are you transporting? I asume it is an HD 6 if you can hold it in your lap, but to answer your question, many of our customers have purchased our water tight cases for the housing and their camera this may be an option for you. If not you may look for a small tote and place some soft weight bags in it to set the housing on. Please let me know if this helps at all.

    A) I'd point out that anyone that places their camera housing in a rinse tank/bucket and walks away is all but asking for a flood. Every bump, every hand that reaches in the bucket, can unlatch a door or pull loose a strobe sync cord or whatever. Housings are especially vulnerable because they're underwater, without the aid of 20' of water pressure holding everything nicely sealed. My rule is the only time my cameras are in a rinse tank is when my hand is attached.

    B) I use a medium size plastic laundry basket with a 1" or 2" thick foam pad in the bottom.

    All the best, James

Finally, I found a quote that's worthy of a sig line snippet:

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm thinking of a padded bag of some kind with foam sealed in plastic. The last time I held it in my lap in rough water, I got exausted for one, it's not light, and when we hit a big wave I went airborn with the housing and came down so hard on the deck, I almot lost my teeth. I was sure the housing would be damaged, but it was OK. Yes it's an HD6.

I've found that the HD6 has been bullet proof on boats, just the red filter on the front is in danger of being scratched if you don't cover it.
I've been putting it under the seat where i suit up, and not a problem - except one weird incident where the vibrations of the engine made the handle bolt unscrew!
I wouldn't sweat it too much
