Question Wetsuit Hood to Drysuit Hood?

I have a wetsuit hood that I bought for my OW course. I just bought a drysuit and needed a drysuit hood. The question is, could I convert the wetsuit hood to use with the drysuit by cutting the skirt off? Or, should I just buy the drysuit hood.

I guess my real quistion, is there a great difference between the two type of hoods? I know they look a little different.

    Thanks,
    WantToBe

    Brrrrrrr....

I get shivers when I hear of a drysuit being used without an attached hood.
Being up there in the PNW you should REALLY consider sending that sucker in to get a proper hood put on the thing.

Common retail for a hood job is only $60 - $75, so what the heck, eh?

Do you plan to ever use that hood with a wetsuit in warmer climates?

Now to expand on that answer

By looking at the 2 hoods you will notice the wetsuit hood has a bib. This is for tucking in the collar of your wetsuit. A drysuit hood has no bib because tucking it in the collar of the drysuit would compromise the neck seal.

You could cut the bib off of the hood and it will work just as well as a drysuit hood. And since you won't be diving wet anymore where you will need a hood. I say go ahead and cut the bib off and save a few bucks.

    WEt Suit Hood

You could cut the bib off of your wetsuit hood, however many of the dry suit hoods out there have a zipper on the back of the head. This makes donning and doffing the hood much easier. Some people would say that the extra money for the hood is not worth it, I would never buy a hood without the zipper. I never struggle to get my hood off.

A wet head is not warm

I agree with bob3 get an attached hood. Most unattached dry hoods you still get wet. If you truly want to be warm and dry get an attached dry hood. I prefer a latex hood with a thinsulate liner. 36 degree water for 60 mins before I get chilled. If you use an unattached hood and get wet, should it still be called a drysuit? I just hate to be.............Friggincold
Let's forget all the BS and just go diving

Friggincold & Bob3 - When I did my OW cert., I dove (dived?) in a 7mm John Jane and was not cold. Alot of divers around here uses non-attached true dry hood.

Kate - No because the hood is 5mm or 7mm( I don't remember which). I bought it for cold diving so it is probably a 7mm. ( Dive as soon as the drysuit arrives. Less then a week and half and counting )

Iguana Don & Diverl - Yes, I will dive in a drysuit from now on around here so the hood will not be use for anything else. I thought, I could recycle the hood. As for hard to put on the hood, Its not a problem because the hood has a slippery coating. If this works, like Don puts it "save a few bucks" so I could put toward two new tanks :p

Thanks All for the helpful info.
