Broad spectrum wetsuit advice

So, I'm looking for a wetsuit. That part is obvious. I just sold my 7mm sem-dry because if I need that thing, I'm diving dry. I think I'd like a 5mm. My logic is to have three levels of protection ranging from board shorts/rash guard, to the 5mm, and then my drysuit with varying levels of insulation.

Any thoughts?

Also, what are your recommendations? Quality supersedes budget, pockets are preferable, longevity would be nice, and I can't decide on the zipper decisions...
