10x- Thats a very good deal on the Nex-gen. I did my first 3 OW dives with my Nex-Gen on Saturday and I was very happy with it. Check out Bare's website they have a wide range of sizes. That will give you an indication of what size you need. Then go to the store and see what size he has in stock. The LDS owner should be able to help you with the fit, and trimming the seals if you buy the suit.
See if the owner will throw in free/discounted training with the suit.
Sort of hard for a novice diver with no drysuit experience, and a LDS who has a single suit they really want to move, to arrive at a fair judgement on fit!
Oh and latex seals do not age well if the suit has been hanging in the shop for a couple years and who knows how long in the factory before that they may be pretty well used up. You might want to get a promise from the shop that they will replace them if they fail within, say, 2 years.

We jumped all over the LDS for a conflict of interest - suggesting that 10X wait until he had some experience under his belt as a way to sell more gear. We might even be right. Then again, here's another LDS suggesting a drysuit that he got stuck with and I think we should be calling the same conflict of interest.
The price on the drysuit is pretty terrific, but there are some big what if's involved. After one year and 22 dives, he might still want to do a gut check to make sure he's going to stick with it and be able to justify the cost. (Admittedly, he's more likely to stick with it if he's diving dry in Michigan) With no knowledge of drysuits, this is still a pretty big leap of faith for him. Personally, I'd go dry but I wouldn't want a bare NextGen - it's an entry level drysuit full of compromises that I wouldn't want to make. Just my .02.
