I'm a new diver (and petite) and I have bought and used my Cressi Spacefrog XS fins to find that they dislocate my ankles. I have EDS (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome) so all my joints are very loose and easy to dislocate. I was wondering if any of the newer fins (split, force fin, other?) would be lighter weight and less force upon my ankles to kick? Has anyone had experience with SCUBA diving with ankle problems? thanks!

You might try split fins. They tend to take less effort and put less stress on the body. I usually recommend them for people with orthopedic problems. You won't be able to get a quick burst of speed like you would with a blade style fin but they are good for most diving.

M-D, it might be a problem finding a split fin that fits your small foot. Also, splits come in different flavors, some are stiffer or heavier than others. However, the ones made of soft rubber will certainly relieve strain and perform really well, if you can get fitted. I don't know anything about the performance or sizing of the Force fin but some people love them. They look to be fairly flexible.

I haven't tried the Force Fins (I already have a regulator that quacks, why would I want duck feet as well?), but I think there are some pretty small ones. There's a size chart on the Web site.
