David Dunleavy "Endangered Species" mural in Key Largo
Our underwater ecosystem, endangered species and coral reef comes to life!!
Captain Slate's Atlantis Dive Center is host to internationally renowned artist David Dunleavy. He is painting an Endangered Species Mural to raise public awareness of the importance of the Florida Keys living coral reef eosystem. Our A-Fram building on U.S. 1in Key Largo at MM 106.5 is his canvas.
The mural showcases the Christ Statue, the living coral reef and colorful marine life that is indigenous to Key Largo. It wraps around three sides of the building and is visible to all that enter and exit the Keys.
David's Endangered Species murals can be seen in the U.S., Bahamas, Australia and a local mural at the History of Diving Museum in Islamorda. "This is my 54th Endangered Species Mural and I have completed 53 projects in 15 years" said David. "As a SCUBA diver, I take all the inspiration and beauty from local diving experiences and paint it on the wall for people to enjoy for many years to come." David's art and conservation commitment have been praised by divers and world renowned explorer Jean Michele Cousteau. He partnered with Cousteau and the Oceans for Youth Foundation to bring enviromental awareness programs and materials to children of all ages. Like his other walls, this one is designed to increase global awareness and stewardship mainly in children.
Local school children have also had a hand in painting the wall. Our back wall hosted school kids yesterday with some very fine talent and great ideas!

While down in Key Largo I was lucky to watch this beautiful mural come to life. I have to say I have never seen fish in a mural so colourful. This has to be the most beautiful mural I have ever seen.
Great job David....maybe you should come to Kenner and brighten up this place.
