I got my C-card about 2 months ago and this was my first ocean/boat/drift diving. Actually, my first dives in anything more than about 6" of vis. I did manage to borrow a Reefmaster for a day, but as my dive instructor taught me, don't hold your breathe.....If I got anything decent, I'll let you know.... :-)
When you first start with underwater photography, snap off as many frames as you can. I've got some really great pictures from, places that don't seam too likely to produce them. The easiest have got to be macro shots, it's pretty hard not to find all types of neat little things to take pictures of. Most camera's have a guide for distance and framing... and visibility isn't such a huge factor.
When it's time to purchase, and you're not looking at getting published, look into Digital camera's they now come with 4.3 megapixels and a whole lotta memory. In the long run it's much cheaper than using film, and has a lot of other features like movie or mpeg capabilities and simple editing on your computer.

I am partial to Coasties and P.J's, because they carry band-aids and are like 911 for Seals, Rangers, Recon, and Pilots.
It's all about fun folks!
