Hi all;
My daughter and I plan on visiting the Keys in August. This will be her 1st dive since becoming certified (at 11 yrs old). I'm thinking of Marathon and Loo Key but no nothing about the accomodations or dive shops. We do want to hire a Guide and rent equipment. All suggestions are welcome. Thanks

Welcome to the board!

I didn't dive that area, but I did just return from Tavernier area. We dove with Conch Republic Divers and I highly recommend them. There are plenty of reefs in the area in the 20 foot range that would be perfect for your daughter. We saw an abundance of sea life including sharks, turtles, rays, eels, and numerous types of fish.

I'm sure others can give you info on Looe Key as well. I had also considered going there.

Good Luck and have a great trip.

Julie

For more information on the Florida Key, may I direct you to follow this path thru our Matrix: ScubaBoard.Com > Regional Travel & Dive Clubs > North America > United States > Florida Conch Divers

Please also invite your daughter to check out our New Divers forum, and - bookmakr this site to check closely while you are packing: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

PM me if I can help you around here....

BTW, welcome (Scub)aBoard! :happywave

Hi Jnathan, welcome to ScubaBoard. Good luck on your dive trip to the Keys. Where will you be coming from? What kind of diving are you used to?
Great to have you aboard.

Moved from Introductions & Greets forum.

You may want to try Looe Key Dive Center. The hotel is OK, priced moderately, though definitely not a 5 star. They have a big dive boat (personally, I prefer something a little smaller) that leaves from right behind the hotel, and best of all, a good tiki bar.

I took my entire family to Looe Key Dive Center. Like someone else already said.. the hotel is reasonably priced, but not a 5 Star... The boat is a nice big cat style of boat. It holds a bunch of divers, but it's very stable in the water.

Key Largo has a lot of nice shallow reefs, too. Molasses Reef, Minnow hole, and many more.

Do check out Conch Republic Divers. Gary and Brenda are great to work with.

I know the owners personally and they do all the dives an 11 year old would love. Nice boat but not too big. There are several really nice hotels in Marathon includung a Holiday Inn. Bahia Honda State park is next to Paridise Diver's shop. Another really nice place to visit and camp.
