My son and I just got back from three days of diving at FLL. We were doing the AOW course through SFDH in FLL. I had been called on Thursday by SFDH, and was told that the Friday morning dives were probably a blow-out due to the lingering effects of frontal passage. Fortunately, Friday morning was better than expected. Although the surface was still a lot swells, it was doable.
Friday was "fun" dives. We did the Nursery, and multiple reefs. Vis was good, at 50+. Current was South to North.
Saturday we started with the Deep dive on the Rodeo 25. Vis was a staggering 150+, with virtually NO current. Everyone on the boat was awestruck. From 20', you could literally see almost the entire ship below. Just breathtaking. The rest of the dives Saturday were also good. Although vis did deteriorate slightly over the weekend, it was still above normal, with minimal current. We did the night dives on Saturday, and it was really nice.
Sunday was more navigation and 60-70 foot wrecks. Again, beautiful.
Water temps were 78 shallow, and 72-74 deeper.
I am pleased to say that we got in all of our required dives, and successfully completed our AOW certifications!
