going on vacation to florida, willing to drive to the Ft Lauderdale area to go diving, anyone have any spots they wouldn`t mind sharing? Whats the best tides to dive there? We will be there July 10 to 17th and driving from Cape Coral area, anything for the non-divers to do while we dive? Thanks keep yer tanks full Vinny

Here are a few resources for local beach diving within an easy drive of Ft. Lauderdale. I might suggest looking in our Private Trips folder for dives that the group is doing together. We always welcome our ScubaBoard friends from afar, and it makes for a more interesting dive.

The links below come from a variety of sources, but I might suggest that you consider the Datura avenue site (3rd one down) as a starting point. It's easy, has a short surface swim, and has a very healthy reef system. You'll find our trips referencing either Hibiscus or Datura for this site, as those are the cross streets where we park.

Low tide is generally the best time, and I tend to like the early morning, before the offshore breeze picks up, just because the surf tends to be a little flatter.

As far as non-divers go, you might consider doing one of the Hollywood sites, since Hollywood beach has a nice little strip of restaurants and shops right on the beach that you dive off of. Look at the ScubaBoard link (#1 below) for the Yellow Brick Road site.

I hope these help. Good luck, safe travel, and many pleasant ascents,
Grier
